Chaos News Network Special Report on the Logrus

Greetings Lord, Ladies, and sentients of unspecified gender. This is Pwyll Hrywvinak, of the Chaos News Network. As promised, tonight, I will be showing an interview with Master Suhuy Sawall, the Keeper of the Logrus, home of the Serpent. Plus, I have a special rebuttal interview. With whom, you ask? Stay tuned and find out. You will now get to see our interview with the man, the legend. Suhuy.

Tape begins. Suhuy and Pwyll are in the studio of CNN.
Pwyll: Thank you for joining us here this bluesky, Lord Suhuy.

Suhuy: Don't mention it. Always glad to clear up misconceptions

Pwyll: Good. First, can I ask how old you really are? It's near the top of the questions submitted by the viewing public before this interview.

Suhuy: Laughter. I will be 5732 in 30 turnings.

Pwyll: Well, then, Happy Birthday. You must have seen it all...the fall of Barimen, the Lessima Secession, and a host of Emperors and Empresses.

Suhuy: That is true, that is true. Through it all, the Logrus, ever changing, ever the same.

Pwyll: And that's why we are here tonight. I thought you would like to clear up some misconceptions the populace has about the source of our strength.

Suhuy:Yes. Please, go ahead. Waves a hand. Fire away.

Pwyll: All right, first, I suppose is the fear factor. Everyone knows about the skulls and bones in your room, and that one source of mine says, quote, 80% of those who enter the Logrus never come out again. unquote. What can you say to this?

Suhuy:Smiles.Well, Pwyll, the part about the bones is true. There is implicit right in my retention of the body of any who fail to complete the Logrus. I find their presence a constant reminder of what exactly lies beyond the portal in the anteroom.

Pwyll: Yes, and about the high proportion of fatalities?

Suhuy: You have to understand, Pwyll, of the unreliability of that figure. Surely the Logrus is dangerous, surely attempting to take the ultimate power has a cost that many bear, but that 80% figure you have been quoted applies to, I would say, the general run of members of the Courts. Those more hale in body, and in mental strength have much better odds of surviving and thriving from the experience.

Pwyll: Nodding I see. So you are saying that your critics are distorting the statistics for their own agenda.

Suhuy: Of course. Note, unlike the source of power for our cousins in Amber, the Logrus is open to any comers. I do ask you have learned your shapeshifting lessons well, Pwyll, for without them, no speed of mind or body will save you from the environments inside the Logrus.

Pwyll: The exact relationship between you, the Emperor, the Diet and the Logrus is still somewhat confusing. Could you clear it up for us?

Suhuy: Certainly. While the Emperor or the Diet may refer candidates to me for attempting to navigate the Logrus, I and I alone are the final arbiter of those who will attempt the ordeal. I will say no, Pwyll, if the odds of a candidate are beyond worth of their surviving. But it doesn't matter who, Pwyll. There are Logrus masters from beyond the courts. The High Priestess of the Fire elementals of Charrae, for example. And, believe it or not, not long ago, an Amberite successfully navigated the Logrus for the first time.

Pwyll: Looking shocked. An Amberite! Can you tell us who from Amber would even dare the Logrus, much less succeed?

Suhuy: I am sorry, but I cannot reveal their identity without their consent. And I highly doubt that they would want to be interviewed by you at this time. There are more pressing matters to deal with.

Pwyll: Ah yes. Well, can you tell us what we might bring along on a Logrus walk? I've heard that the Emperor brought a small string to be enchanted by the power of the Serpent.

Suhuy: Indeed. You have to bring one item, and one item only with you into the Logrus, lest the enchantment be unpredictable. I've seen blades, glasses, spheres and even a ladder. The variety quite astonishes me, myself.

Pwyll: That is interesting. Any final thoughts or words for the audience?

Suhuy: Yes. I am contactable via House Sawall, if you would like to arrange an appointment for an interview. While the Logrus is dangerous, Pwyll, it is the young members of the Courts who undergo it that will be tomorrow's House Heads and who knows what else, and greater? Thank you, Pwyll.

Pwyll: Thank YOU, Lord Suhuy. Tape Ends

Now, friends, comes that special interview I promised you. Your fearless reporter, Pwyll Hrywvinak went to the source. Here we have, for you, an interview with Lady Diana Amicus, of the Lessiman Court

The Tape begins, showing Pwyll and an middle aged woman with tiger stripes in her red hair, and wearing a halter top and skirt.

Pwyll: I am glad that you could make it, Lady Amicus.

Diana: Yes, but your organization has ensured my safety and recompensation for this.

Pwyll: Come now, there is no aggression, currently, between Lessima, and the Courts. Anyway, we are here to discuss the Lessiman opinion on the Logrus.

Diana: Very well. We believe the Logrus is an elaborate trap, and the Serpent is a parasite on sentient beings.

Pwyll: Shudders and then looks upset. Parasite?!

Diana: Parasite. Consider. While the Logrus delivers power, it does so at a fearful cost to the body politic of Chaos. For every Logrus master you get, you get several more people whose lives are ruined because they did not attempt the Logrus, and several more who died in the attempt or went insane.

Pwyll: Yes, but the benefits of a Logrus Imprint...

Diana: Growling.A fool's dream. Look at Lessima. We use the power of our bodies, and at far less risk than subjecting ourselves to the whim of a Serpent if we will survive the ordeal or not. In fact many a scion of Chaos has come to Lessima to learn the finer arts of Shapeshifting not taught in Chaosian schools of learning.

Pwyll: Yes, but we are the greater power, economically and otherwise...

Diana: Laughs. I thought we were here to discuss the Logrus. Face it, Pwyll, the Logrus is too dangerous a power to effectively use in numbers. It was that fact, I think that helped lead to Chaos' defeat at the hands of Amber...

Pwyll: Thank you Diana, for your candid and revealing opinion.

Tape ends.

Pwyll: Well, there you have it, folks. The Logrus. Source of our Power and stability. Or a danger in our very mist. You decide. This is Pwyll Hrywvinak signing off.

Show ends.
