Lord Iolaus Diotrephes of Syracuse
Plenipotentary Ambassador from Syracuse
Iolaus Diotrephes is the son of Havyrl Diotrephes, one of the seven senior council members of Syracuse. Noble by birth, he has spent much of his life in the service of his family and his City-State.
The younger of two sons, Havyrl groomed his younger son from the start to be the more wide-ranging of his children. While Metetrios has learned the politics of their polis, Iolaus has been sent on assignments outside of the city-state. Iolaus, in his twenty eight years, has visited much of the Achaemenid Empire on behalf of Syracuse.
Used to travelling and working alone, with a gift for languages, excellent flexibility in dealing with unpredictable situations, and a knack for completing deals, Iolaus was nominated by his father, and overwhelmingly approved to be the first ambassador to leave Achaea once the Rift Project was completed.
Iolaus' first trip outside Achaea led him to the Golden Circle shadow locally known as Corfu. Amazed at the reality of worlds beyond his own, Iolaus soon plugged himself into the local network of information. Everything he learned, and everyone he talked to referred to one central power.
Amber.
While Syracuse was pleased at the prospect of being the focal point of trade with their new neighbor, the council was intrigued by the story of Amber. Here, they felt, was an ally which could lift Syracuse free of the decaying Empire once and for all. And the trade with such an ally would surely vaunt their prestige. It was an easy decision; Iolaus would journey to the heart of the Golden Circle, and offer entreaty to King Random.
And so Iolaus travels to the heart of the Golden Circle...Amber.
Iolaus is twenty eight years of age and has hair medium between blond and brown. His eyes are hazel and a medium build. He is unmarried, but has been given instructions that if a marriage of alliance or treaty is required, he is given leave to enter into one in Amber.
Iolaus' main gift is in language and rhetoric. He can speak five languages native to his home shadow of Achaea. Oddly enough, it appears that Thari is one of them, being one of the minor provincial languages of the Empire. Neither Iolaus nor his superiors are quite sure what to make of this. Iolaus is an avid reader and loves to work with word puzzles. His greatest love,however is an essential one in his profession. He is truly a rootless person, thinking nothing of leaving Syracuse for weeks, months and even longer on his forays and journeys.
